We've just had a meeting with Southwark Council and Southwark Councillors to find out what the future holds for Camberwell New Cemetery, Honor Oak Park railway embankment owned by Network Rail. You can't fail to have noticed the epic scale of the clean up operation behind the station and within the Southwark owned cemetery.

WE WOULD LIKE TO PROPOSE TO SOUTHWARK COUNCIL THAT HONOR OAK PARK IS A NEGLECTED AND OFTEN FORGOTTEN CORNER OF THEIR BOROUGH IN DESPERATE NEED OF SOME TLC

We propose that a possible short-term goal would be to turn this mess

INTO THIS OASIS


AND A LONGER-TERM GOAL - A WOODLAND BURIAL AREA

We are proposing to Southwark Council that they turn this fly-tipped mess in Camberwell New Cemetery in Honor Oak Park Recreation Ground into a natural renewable woodland burial area.

We also want a small area allocated to a 'Grow you own vegetables in a builders bag scheme' to alleviate the 2 year waiting list for an allotment for Lewisham and Southwark residents.

What a difference a day makes!

The sun shone on our BIG tidy up day and thanks to everyone's hard work and determination we achieved our goal - we cleared all the rubbish from behind the railings on Southwark land.

A huge thank you to the local people who turned out to litter pick and a big big thank you to Lewisham Council's Environment team: Nigel Tyrell, Head of Environment, Sam Kirk and Nicky Callen, without whom we couldn't have achieved our goal. Local Councillors Jackie Addison and Jarman Parmar got stuck in too - thank you. Walking along the pavement up to One Tree Hill is now a great deal more pleasant.
